Provider Transaction Access Number (PTAN)
Please note that your legacy Medicare provider number is now referred to as your Provider Transaction Access Number, or PTAN.
Effective 12-14-07, the IVR will now prompt providers to enter in their "PTAN" instead of their "provider number." Any new provider enrollment letters received will reference PTAN. Please note the change is cosmetic only, providers need not take any action. Providers need only to realize that their legacy Medicare provider number is now called their PTAN.
