HPSA designations do change occasionally. The Shortage Designation Branch in the Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health Professions, National Center for Health Workforce Analysis develops shortage designation criteria and uses them to decide whether or not a geographic area is a HPSA. You can visit their Website at http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/shortage/ link to website outside of wpsmedicare opens a new window to determine the criteria used in HPSA designations and for information on contacting their office. Please remember that only a geographic HPSA is eligible for the incentive payment from Medicare.
