Introducing "Novice Know How": Focused Education for New Providers

Home Provider Part B Education

(Note: This is the first in a series of monthly articles.)

Medicare's primary goal is to reduce the national claims payment error rate to 5%. Various WPS Medicare staff members, including representatives from Provider Outreach & Education, Medical Review, Provider Enrollment, and the Central Data unit, comprise the New Provider Monitoring Workgroup (NPMW). The NPMW monitors, through data analysis, the billing patterns of all newly enrolled WPS Medicare providers. To ensure correct coverage and coding from the beginning, the workgroup meets regularly to discuss data findings and relative issues. If the team decides an educational contact would be beneficial for the new provider, an Outreach Analyst calls the new provider to assist him/her based on the data findings for the base period monitored.

In an effort to assist in new provider educational efforts, the NPMW will publish a monthly article in the Communiqué newsletter. The articles will address those most common issues that pose a challenge for new providers. If you are a new provider, look for "Novice Know How" in future issues of Communiqué. If you would like to submit an idea for future publication, please e-mail your suggestion to MedicareAdmin@wpsic.com
