Novice Know-How: How Do I Know about Billing Requirements Prior to my Effective Date as a Medicare Part B Provider?
Providers are responsible to know the rules and regulations that apply to all services they bill to the Medicare Program. According to the Medicare Carriers Manual (MCM), Part 3, Chapter 7, Section 7103.1:
1) "In general, the physician should have known a policy or rule if:
1) The policy or rule is in the Federal regulations,
2) [WPS Medicare] provided general notice to the medical community concerning the policy or rule, or
3) [WPS Medicare] gave written notice of the policy or rule to the particular physician."
