Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System (HIGLAS)
Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) Medicare will transition to a new Standardized Accounting system. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is implementing a standardized accounting system for use by all Medicare contractors. This standard system will replace the many Medicare contractor accounting systems with a single unified standard system.
HIGLAS replaces only the Medicare Carrier System (MCS) accounting system. WPS Medicare will continue to use the MCS system for all claim processing functions. Once the MCS system approves a claim, HIGLAS will perform payment calculations, formatting and accounting functions. HIGLAS will also eliminate manual processes and will provide timely and accurate data.
HIGLAS will have minimal impact on the provider community. Upcoming changes will be published in future Communiqué articles and on our Website.
