Direct Data Entry Change

Home Provider Part A Publications

This article is to inform you of an important change that will affect the way you access the Fiscal Intermediary Shared System (FISS) through the Direct Data Entry option.

According to our records, your facility currently has a Medicare System Access Agreement with Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) whereby the provider agreed to pay WPS the fees related to accessing FISS through a dial up connection using AT&T Passport software. A letter was sent to serve as notice that the agreement would be terminated effective October 31, 2008.

WPS is taking this action in preparation for the transition of claims processing from the Mutual of Omaha Data Center to a CMS contracted Enterprise Data Center (EDC), tentatively scheduled for early 2009.

As of October 31, 2008, WPS terminated your current access. We provided a 30 day grace period to allow your facility to make the required changes. To assure you still have access to FISS to allow you to enter Medicare claims, make claim corrections, and inquire about claims status and Medicare eligibility, you will need to obtain these services directly from an eligible vendor.

WPS has worked with IVANS, a CMS and AT&T business partner, to provide you with a solution. Under separate cover, you were sent a packet containing information from IVANS detailing the options available.

If you have any questions, please contact the Systems Department, Direct Data Entry Unit at 1-866-734-6656, option 2.
