FISS System Release Information for January 2010

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires and schedules standard system quarterly updates that each Medicare contractor must load into their claim processing system. These quarterly updates take place each January, April, July, and October. The January 2010 update will take place the weekend of January 2, 2010. The System staff will create a hold edit, WW404, and place it in the system on January 1, 2010, to ensure that all claims submitted on or after January 1, 2010, with January 1, 2010 dates of service and after, are held in the system until the January update has been completed. The status location is SMHOLD. Once we confirm and validate that the system updates are processing correctly, we will start releasing the claims from the hold edit. Due to the volume of claims, it may take a few business days to release all the claims from the hold.

Quarterly release information is available to all providers on the CMS Website at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/QuarterlyProviderUpdates/0989_QPUJanuaryMarch2010.asp . The information is in a grid format with the CMS Transmittal #, subject, Issue/Publication Date, Implementation Date, Change Request #, Provider Type, Publication #, and Additional Information.
