Draft LCDs
Medicare Division draft LCDs are posted on the CMS Medicare Database as drafts for comment a minimum of 45 calendar days. Draft LCDs open for comment are designated in the Draft Status column as C on the CMS database. (See CMS database legend.) At the end of the formal comment period, the Draft Status designation is changed to E. When the final new/revised LCD has been issued with response to comments, the Draft Status column listing is changed to F. A 45-day final notification period ensues. The LCD remains posted in the Draft listing with a designation of F for 6 months before it is moved to the Active LCD posting. For that period of time the LCD is active from the listed effective date on the CMS website.
