IRIS PROGRAMS
The purpose of the Interns and Resident Information System (IRIS) program is to capture information about interns and residents in approved programs who work at hospitals that participate in the Medicare program as required by 42 CFR 413.75 – 413.83 (Direct Graduate Medical Education) and 42 CFR 412.105 (Indirect Medical Education). This information is used to determine Medicare payments for both IME and GME.

FAQs
Can I load the IRISv3 or IRISedv3 program on a local-area network (LAN)?
CMS recommends that the programs are loaded onto the computer s hard drive (C:\). IRISv3 and IRISedv3 are single user programs but in some cases they can be run from a network file server. However, the programs should not be used in a multi-user environment (more than one user entering or changing data at the same time).
What files should be included when sending the IRIS diskette or CD-ROM to WPS?
The diskette or CD-ROM should include both the A3provider#.dbf and the M3provider#.dbf files
Why can’t I find the applicable medical school code?
The medical school could be a sponsoring institution and the applicable code would be the actual accredited medical school. The latest medical school codes are available above.
