Filing of Short-Form Cost Reports

Home Provider Part A Medicare Areas Audit and Reimbursement

Per the Federal Register dated June 27, 1995, page 33138, extensions may be granted when a provider's operations are significantly adversely affected due to extraordinary circumstances for which the provider has no control. An example of such extraordinary circumstances might be a flood or a fire that forced a provider to cease operations and transfer patients temporarily to other providers outside of the impacted area. Providers must submit in writing explaining their reason for requesting a cost report extension to their Fiscal Intermediary. The intermediary would still be required to obtain CMS approval.
