Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA)/835
Advantage to receiving ERA instead of the paper Remittance Advice (RA) include:
- Quicker communication. The ERA is available the day your claims are paid, rather than waiting for delivery of the paper Remittance Advice (RA) which is mailed through the United States Postal Service.
- The ERA can be downloaded and stored for future use.
CMS recommends that providers accept ERA transmissions in lieu of mailed SPRs. Communication software is needed in order to send and receive files. WPS Medicare does not provide communication software.
**The ERA replaces the paper Remittance Advice (RA)**
On July 23, 2007, there was a change in the process for requesting Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA), electronic reports and 997 reports to be re-generated to the mailbox. The change was made to ensure the accurate receipt and completion of requests.
The EDI Department will no longer accept a verbal request for this process. All requests must be mailed or faxed to 402-351-8047 on your company letterhead to the Medicare EDI Department.
All requests must include the following information:
- At least one provider number.
- The Mailbox/Logon ID used to retrieve the file.
- The type of file that needs to be re-generated.
- The submitter ID.
- The date of the ERA needing to be re-generated.
- The name, phone number and fax number of the person submitting the request.
- Indicate if the ERA or reports are being retrieved through VisionShare.
The processing time for these request can take up to five business days to complete. If any of the information is missing on the request, it will be returned to the requestor for further information.
If the ERA is over 30 days old, an electronic copy cannot be re-generated to the mailbox. The request for a paper copy will need to be mailed or faxed to the following address or fax number:
