Kansas, Nebraska, and Western Missouri Part B providers
Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) in conjunction with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) would like to announce a two-week delay for Medicare Part B providers in Kansas, Nebraska, and Western Missouri on the requirement that claims submitted to Medicare must include a National Provider Identifier (NPI) that was to go into effect on March 1, 2008. Part B providers in Kansas, Western Missouri, and Nebraska can continue to submit claims with only their Provider Transaction Access Number (PTAN) through March 14, 2008. WPS recognizes the impact the NPI requirement and the process of transitioning to a new Medicare Contractor may have on providers and we are happy to announce this delay.
WPS Medicare encourages all providers to begin billing with their National Provider Identifier (NPI) today. On March 17, 2008, claims without a NPI in the primary provider fields (billing and pay-to provider fields) will begin to reject according to CMS processing requirements.
