Claims Processing Alert - Liability Related Denials -

WPS Medicare has identified a claims processing issue, which began on June 26, 2008. This issue has caused a number of claims to erroneously deny with an OA-121, -21, or a PR-19, indicating the beneficiary has liability insurance. We have identified the root cause for this system-generated denial and have taken the necessary steps to correct the problem. WPS Medicare placed a temporary fix into the system on July 10, 2008, which will cause future submitted claims to suspend for manual review. Providers may continue to see the denials for a short period until all claims currently in the system are finalized. At this time, we are advising providers to resubmit those claims they believe were denied in error.
