Education
WPS Medicare Provider Outreach and Education (POE) department is responsible for disseminating information about the Medicare program, billing, and claims issues in order to help providers with Medicare-related matters on a daily basis
The POE Goal
The primary goal of the POE program is to reduce the provider Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) program's Provider Compliance Error Rate (PCER) and the Hospital Payment Monitoring Program (HPMP) rate by giving Medicare providers the information they need to understand the Medicare program, be informed timely about changes, and bill correctly. POE is driven by educating providers and their staffs about the fundamentals of the Medicare program, policies, and procedures, new Medicare initiatives, significant changes to the Medicare program, and issues identified through analyses of such sources as provider inquiries, claim submission errors, medical review data, Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) data, HPMP data, and the Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC) data.
Partnerships with External Entities
POE works toward establishing partnerships with external entities to help disseminate Medicare provider information. Whenever feasible, events and activities are coordinated with interested groups and organizations. In addition, contractors routinely and directly notify other interested entities of their upcoming provider education events and activities.
Publications
POE is required to maintain a Website, monthly newsletter, Listserv, and other means to provide timely and cost-effective communications to providers. WPS Medicare has developed a Medicare Publications area to meet these requirements.
