What Is A Local Coverage Determination?

The WPS Medicare Local Policies Web Page allows you to access a significant amount of information regarding local policies and the policy process. Within this page you will find information including an all inclusive list of WPS Medicare's J5 LCDs. From this list, you are able to retrieve specific information enabling you to further search the LCD via the CMS Coverage Database. You may also access Local Policies by state or LCDs prior to cutover to WPS. A formal request to revise a Local Policy can be made through the Reconsideration Process.

The WPS Medicare National Policies Web Page provides a resource to learn why NCDs are developed and where you can find one. NCDs apply to all jurisdictions. NCDs on the CMS database - Use this link to access CMS' NCDs. NCD for Erythropoiesis Stimulating Agents(ESAs) in Cancer and Related Neoplastic Conditions- Access a special link to this NCD and read the associated coding and billing guidelines.
