Mandatory Payment Reduction-Sequestration
Effective for services dated April 1, 2013, through March 31, 2014, the Budget Control Act of 2011 requires mandatory across the board reductions in Federal spending, also known as sequestration. For this timeframe, Medicare must reduce claim payments by 2%. You can identify the reduction on the electronic remittance advice and standard paper remittance by Claim Adjustment Reason Code 223, described as, “Adjustment code for mandated Federal, State or local law/regulation that is not already covered by another code and is mandated before a new code can be created.” Learn more…Adobe Portable Document Format
